Giant sequoia trees are present in the park, and we decided to park the car and walk a mile or so to view one example that is more than 1800 years old. Soaring hundreds of feet in the air, these trees are amongst the planets largest species and are so rich in tannin that they are almost impervious to rot and disease. For Guardians of the Galaxy fans, these trees closely resemble the character Groot. We spent a fantastic morning climbing in and around these giants.
