Frozen Mariposa

An late afternoon drive down towards Yosemite National Park saw us arrive in the quaint town of Mariposa late in the evening. The drive was something of a bare knuckle experience, through miles and miles of tortuously twisted canyon roads and mountain passes, none of which have guard rails. The view to absolutely spectacular though.

Perhaps the highlight of the drive down was walking out onto a frozen lake. In eerie silence, the lake was glassy smooth and then dusted with a couple of inches of powdery snow. Absolutely beautiful.

After casting around in Mariposa County for 30 miles or so, we eventually located the motel we had booked. It was cunningly concealed right at the turn off where we entered Mariposa, directly beneath the 20' neon sign that proclaimed its name. Bugger...
